Hi Brad,
OK.
You can write in english if it's easier for you. I think many of us can translate too.

Thank you, Christophe
Your English is likely better than my google translations, eh. It is interesting how puzzling this uniform is. It is not flowery enough to be a band uniform??? I believe man to be in early 20s years of age. Perhaps serving his mandatory service duty??? He is a lieutenant and that may suggest he comes from a upper class of family?? Even though he is an officer, we can not identify him in military or civil records found, thus far.

Hello Brad,
Thank you for your congratulations.
This man seems to be a leutnant if he was in the french army : two braids on the beret, and the sleeves uniform.
The color of the beret, clearer than the jacket and probably the same as the trousers is curious.
I ask another forum called forum pages 1418, and posted the photo.
If there is any answer, I will tell.
Regards
Christophe

Hi Brad,
A member of the other forum doesn't think it's a militar uniform.
Many things are wrong with a " real uniform " : the form and color of the beret, breads sewing, no epaulettes for example.
Do you think that Jules Martin could be an actor ?
His attitude in an armchair doesn't seem to be very martial. Unfortunately, we cannot see his feet and his shoes : were they boots ? Nobody knows...

Since we begin our search on the identity of the man in the photo, I began to fear problems with the uniform. However, since I was not familiar with French uniforms, I kept searching. I hoped that by first identifying the uniform I could then identify the man. We did sample my mother in law's DNA, and it is now posted on the Ancestry DNA sites. We have many matches to many people to contact. Hopefully, photo will be recognized by someone. Thank you, brad

Thank you all for your help. It appears man in photo is not a cyclist. I have long wondered if the uniform may be of a Military School for officer training. I found this old photo taken in class at the Ecole de Saint Maixent. Note the uniforms. Should I look more this direction? Brad

Hello Brad,
Why not a student in Saint-Maixent... But...
A student was second lieutenant at the end of his schooling, not lieutenant (2 braids) as this man could be.
Or was he a teacher in Saint-Maixent ? I don't know.
Can you scan next the collar in a better resolution to see if there are numbers or letters, or else on this collar ?
Regards
Christophe
